Hi, I’m Amanda. Welcome to Needle & Bow where I share history and books that I love.

I have many past lives but in the current one I am an amateur historian and researcher. I shifted my focus to history writing in 2020, and since then I have been researching subjects that include disability history and gender history. Since one of my primary sources have been local historical cemeteries, I have also been learning about cemetery and funeral history. I primarily focus on Nebraska and the Great Plains region of the United States between 1890-1920. My work sometimes blends history writing with memoir that recounts my own experience with disability and chronic illness.

I am the author of two books of poetry, Romancing the Gatekeeper and Love Letters to the Grave Digger.

I have a bachelor’s degree in Language Arts and Psychology from Peru State College as well as a master’s degree in Critical and Creative Thinking from the University of Nebraska at Omaha.

And because life is too short to not have a cool leather jacket author photo, here is mine.
